Agent Status and Notifications
Read PonyMux agent status indicators, jump between Terminals that need attention, and configure completion, approval, input, and error notifications.
After you connect Claude Code or Codex, PonyMux translates provider events into a small set of consistent status indicators. The same state is used in the Terminal row, the status bar, the Inspector, history menus, and pets.
Status meanings

| Error | The agent stopped because something went wrong. | |
| Waiting for you | The agent needs approval or another response before it can continue. | |
| Will come back | The main agent is standing by while tracked background or subagent work is still outstanding. | |
| Unread | New agent activity is available since you last viewed the Terminal. | |
| Running | The agent is actively working. | |
| Standing by | A live agent session is ready for another prompt. |
Shells and exited Terminals do not receive an agent status facet.
Jump to the next matching Terminal
When at least one Terminal in the current collection has a status, the bottom of the Terminal list shows a badge with its count. Select a badge to jump to the next matching Terminal. Repeated selections cycle through the matching rows.
This is navigation, not filtering: the collection and its manual order do not change.
Notifications
PonyMux can notify you when you are outside the relevant Terminal. Notification kinds are configured independently in Settings → General:
- Turn finished
- Permission requested
- Input requested by an MCP server
- Agent error
Each kind can be Off, Silent, or Sound. Permission requests, input requests, and errors use Sound by default; completed turns are Silent by default.
You can also decide whether a Terminal behind the currently visible one should notify you, and whether notification previews may show the Terminal name and conversation text. With previews disabled, PonyMux uses redacted titles and bodies instead.
Selecting a PonyMux notification activates the app and reveals its Terminal. Deleting a Terminal forever removes both delivered and pending notifications associated with it.
